ABOUT ME

I am a Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist, working with children, youth, adults and families. Over the past twenty-five years I have had the humble honour of providing non-judgemental and compassionate professional counselling and social work services in a variety of settings; including community mental health and education. I believe in the uniqueness of every individual and am passionate about working collaboratively with you to increase your resiliency and empowerment and improve your life!

Education
I hold a Master of Social Work degree as well as a Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. I love learning and to support you in the best way possible, I have continued to engage in professional development throughout my career, always looking to enhance my clinical skills.

What Is Therapy?

Therapy involves meaningful conversations and exploration of your thoughts, feelings, values and relationships. With the support and guidance of a mental health professional, this exploration helps us to learn and grow increasing our self-awareness and creating meaningful changes in our life. Therapy is a form of self-care. You do not need to wait until a crisis to feel the benefits. Just as we have always been taught to take care of our physical health, taking care of our mental health is equally as important and therapy is one way to do this.

How Can Therapy Help?

By working with a mental health professional, you can create a deeper understanding of yourself, set goals and create a wellness plan to improve your mental health and feel better.

Therapy can help:

  •  Build self-awareness and a deeper connection and appreciation of your own personal journey and story
  •  Enhance your sense of empowerment and resiliency
  •  Understand your own patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour and how they impact your wellness
  •  Improve communication, allowing you to express your needs
  •  Create a deeper understanding of your important relationships
  •  Identify strengths and create healthy coping tools

MY APPROACH

I believe that everyone has skills and strengths they bring to therapy and as such I employ a strengths-based therapeutic approach. Everyone expresses themselves and copes differently therefore, each person deserves something individualised in therapy. Meeting each person ‘where they are’ helps honour the uniqueness of every individual.

As trust and safety are the foundation of every therapeutic relationship, I will work hard to create a genuine and authentic connection built on respect, inclusion and integrity. We will work collaboratively to identify areas of growth; developing goals and a plan towards wellness.

My approach is informed by:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
